BCBSOK denial causes #ApproveLorelei to trend on twitter
Well, we got the phone call from our health insurance company (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma) around 4:30 this afternoon. Bad news. They have denied Lorelei's transplant. I guess it's cheaper for them to just let Lorelei die. Of course we will appeal. But that won't be in time for Hannah to donate over her spring break. I have cancelled all the travel arrangements I made last week. There are no words for how discouraging this is.
But the good news is this. Maybe BCBS's denial will bring to light the real issue at hand. Insurance companies should not be able to use their concern for the bottom line to decide who lives and who dies. Our friends on facebook and twitter seem to feel the same way. Everyone is tweeting their distaste for the denial to http://twitter.com/bcbsok (@bcbsok) using the hashtag #ApproveLorelei and the tweets are numerous enough to cause it to be trending on twitter! I've already had phone calls from two different local TV stations wanting to do stories.
