Change in plans...again
Change in plans. Lorelei's doctor at MD Anderson (Cesar Nunez) called Friday. He seems less optimistic about the possibility that the glowing spots on her PET scan are not caner. There's some significant glow in several spots. Those were hard words to hear but I think Lorelei does better when she is able to brace for bad news than when she hopes and gets disappointed. We're still praying it's just thymic rebound.
Dr. Nunez wants to perform Lorelei's biopsy via CT guided mediastinoscopy on Wednesday January 23 instead of Friday the 18th. (There's a chance she'll need to have a chest tube and the surgeon doesn't want her to be forced to have it in all weekend.) So, instead of traveling to Houston this week we will fly on Monday the 21st. That's good because it gives us a little more time to find a flight from the Corporate Angel Network out of OKC instead of Bartlesville. We're hoping to hitch a free ride in an empty seat. Flying commercially is expensive since we were unable to book far in advance. A free flight would be huge help.
We'll stay in the Rotary House while we are at MD Anderson. It's a hotel connected to the medical facility so everything is convenient. They'll even come to the room to take labs or hang a blood transfusion if needed. We're so thankful we were able to make a reservation. And Lorelei's fellow cancer warrior Maddy Watts will be there this same week. We're hoping we can get the girls together. Being a cancer patient is difficult and lonely. It may help to talk about it with someone else in the same boat. The continuous battle for Lorelei is to remain focused on what she has left, not on what she's lost.
This week Lorelei has the special honor of getting to go to the Chesapeake studios to film an ad campaign in conjunction with Make-A-Wish. She's excited about that and we're thankful for the distraction since it did not pan out for her to go to college this semester.
Thank you for your prayers and concern in the death if Kevin's father (Lorelei's Papa) this week. Many donated to Lorelei's support trust in Carl's memory and that money will help pay for the hotel and travel expenses. God's provision for our every need is constantly evident.
