Long day for Lorelei

Lorelei arrived at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital at 6:30 am for surgery at 8:00 am. Dr. Randolph performed the left second intercostal exploratory biopsy. He was able to enter the chest cavity via the incision from last week's port removal and go between two ribs. He was able to avoid removing any of her rib--that's good to prevent opportunity for infection to get into bone. Also, we were pleased they were able to avoid using a chest tube. Her lung re-inflated well after the procedure. He got down to the base of the growing mass where there has been continuous PET activity. He removed a specimen about the size of a walnut and several other small pieces from other areas. These seemed to make the pathologist believe they have enough to get a diagnosis. The pathology results may not be back till Wednesday or Thursday. Dr. Randolph also implanted a Hickman double lumen catheter into the other side (right) of her chest. (Yay for helping to balance out the scars!) The Hickman will make chemo and stem cell transplant much easier.  She has been admitted to an inpatient room so her pain can be managed over night.

Every day, my prayers are with you and your family. You will be in great hands, at your stay at Baptist! That was my home away from home from March-August 2009. Everyone is on "our" floor because it is their calling. They know that they are an instrument, through which God guides them. I send you love, strength, and a gentle embrace, sweetheart. Dela.
