Lorelei can hardly catch her breath (and it's not because of cancer!)
Today (and it's only half over) has been such an incredible gift by Make-A-Wish for Lorelei. The limousine picked her up at 7:30 at the hotel and took her to the Integris Thunder Practice Facility. The Thunder organization was so kind as to allow us (her family) to stay inside the facility while Lorelei attended the coaches meeting. She was miked during the meeting and the Thunder's videographer kept cracking up because the feed of her conversations was being fed into his earpiece. She totally took over that coaches meeting from the minute she stepped in the door! The coaches told her it was the best meeting of the year! We heard her telling Coach Brooks that his team needed to work on rebounding. She said "We need to establish our physicality. At the Laker game we settled for quick outside shots instead of driving the ball." And she told Perkins he's not allowed to get a technical tonight.
Out on the practice court Lazar Hayward was the first to greet her and hold a "real" conversation with her. KD recognized her as the "crazy" girl who just last night (at Mickey Mantle's) told him she'd see him in the morning (and he had no clue what she was talking about.) She had an entire conversation with Serge Ibaka in Spanish and none of us knew what it was about! And James Harden played her in a game of 21. Lorelei won! Eric Maynor served as the ref and gave Lorelei four points for each basket where James only got one, or two if he swished. Maynor must have thought that "Cancer" beat "Concussion" in the point allocation. Russell Westbrook came over to coach and encourage Lorelei against Harden. And Perkins just sweated on everybody. But we saw him smile a couple of times too. All the guys chose to have Lorelei pass them the ball during drills instead of the usual coaches. And James Harden even came over and gave ME a hug! He apologized for the sweat but I didn't mind. ;)
All the guys signed her jersey!
After the practice it was time for the media to swarm. And swarm they did. News9 should be running a story tonight at 5:00. The media seem to really take to Lorelei. It seems mutual.
I'm certain I've left something out, but I'll post again soon. Tonight is the big game! And she'll be sitting in Clay Bennett's seats next to Aubrey McClendon and Christy and Jim Everest. She even gets to have dinner in the Founder's Lounge!
