Pneumonia and Sepsis
October 31, 2012 (Day +7)
When Lorelei's temp went over 103 today the doctors ordered all sorts of tests. The chest x-ray showed pneumonia. But they also took blood cultures. These have shown Lorelei has sepsis, a blood infection. The culture still needs to be grown out and tested for sensitivities. Right now all we know is she has gram-negative rods in her blood. They are treating her with IV Vancomycin and Cefepime. These should cover even the most resistant bacteria. Plus she's receiving platelets to replace hers which are being diminished by the infection. Her resting heart-rate is elevated (115-130.) All of that is common with sepsis. She's pretty sick. Please pray for wisdom for the doctors and nurses who are treating Lorelei.
I think it's going to be another long night.
