This season's not over
Lorelei had a hard time holding back the tears last night as her eyes met KD's during the Thunder's post game press conference. It was a pretty emotional moment. This NBA season is over for her beloved Thunder but the encouragement this team has provided Lorelei will carry her forward; Lorelei's "season" is still in full swing. (Wouldn't it be great if she could set a date for her "final" battle with this beast and know it was actually over after those 48 minutes? I wish.)
Lorelei allowed the doctors to mask and strap her down to that table again today. But she didn't need any Ativan to get her through it. She endured knowing she'd be unstrapped in just about 20 minutes and we'd be driving downtown to the Thunder offices to pick up a gift left for her by the players. She was so excited! She didn't even care about the waffle marks on her face. The gift was a set of Beats by Dre headphones! Thunder blue with lightning bolts. Now she can listen to music the way it was meant to sound and utilize the only one of her senses that won't be messed up during her upcoming transplant. Sound becomes pretty important to you when you can't see or smell or taste or feel anything you used to love. Her sense of hearing is her only sense not affected by cancer treatments. These headphones will be a constant reminder to her that she's not fighting alone. Plus they'll deliver music for her soul in the most beautiful way possible.
To the Thunder players we wish to express our deepest gratitude for your thoughtfulness in giving these Beats to Lorelei.
And to each of you reading this, thank you for your encouraging words, financial gifts and prayer support over these 16 months. I bet you're almost as tired of helping as we are of needing help! Please don't stop yet. There's still plenty of time left in Cancer Kicking season.
