Moving at warp speed. Today's task: figure out how to be "beamed up" to Houston. Lorelei got a call from MD Anderson yesterday telling her she needs to be in Houston Sunday night June 23. (Oh no; that's in just five days!)
Dr. Worth wants to begin her transplant very soon. Rather than waiting for her body to recover from the insult of a month of radiation, they want to begin the transplant asap "before anything bad can happen." There are lots of tests to be done first so she needs to be at MD Anderson by 8:15am Monday morning, June 24.
For goodness sake, the skin on her neck is still crispy! But I'm glad to be moving forward quickly because that means she may be done with her transplant before her brothers return from Afghanistan. She'll need to remain in Houston for 100 days after leaving the hospital but surely she can get a hall pass to attend their welcome home celebration wearing a mask.
So, we need to get to Houston for a few days. But there's no time to purchase affordable Southwest Airlines flights which need two weeks in advance. There are also not enough advance notice days to request an Angel Flight. Does anyone have frequent flyer miles they can donate? If we can't get a flight (which would be easier for Lorelei's body) we'll just drive.
The plan will be to perform tests in Houston next week and then return to OKC. Lorelei will have one week to be "normal" in between the tests and driving to Houston for the transplant which will begin July 8. (In honor of a week of "normal" we've planned a fun fishing trip for her from June 29 to July 4.)
Thank you for your continued support and prayer.
